Why UAE Gaming Startups Are Moving to Solana & Web3 Infrastructure (And How We Built One)

A breakdown of why Solana and Web3 infrastructure are powering the next wave of UAE gaming startups — and how we implemented it ourselves.

Why UAE Gaming Startups Are Moving to Solana & Web3 Infrastructure (And How We Built One)

Why Solana, and Why Now?

Solana has become the blockchain of choice for many UAE gaming startups because it solves two critical issues: transaction speed and cost. Traditional blockchains like Ethereum often run into congestion, leading to gas fees that make in-game microtransactions impractical. Solana, with its high throughput and low fees, allows developers to design tokenized assets, in-game economies, and NFT-based collectibles that scale to thousands of players without breaking immersion. For startups building from Dubai or Abu Dhabi, this efficiency translates directly into smoother onboarding, better user retention, and sustainable economies that don't collapse under network fees.

Beyond Payments: Full Web3 Infrastructure

It's not just about cheaper payments. Web3 infrastructure opens up programmable ownership, transparent leaderboards, and interoperable items across multiple games. UAE's regulatory clarity around virtual assets has made it easier for startups to experiment with models like play-to-earn, staking-based rewards, and secondary trading markets. With Solana's developer ecosystem (Metaplex, Anchor, Phantom wallets), teams can quickly build not only the game but also its surrounding economy — storefronts, guild systems, and asset marketplaces. This allows players to see gaming not just as entertainment, but as an investment in digital property they can truly own and trade.

How We Built Our Own

When we designed our gaming project, we started with a simple goal: create a seamless onboarding flow that doesn't force players to become "crypto experts." We integrated Solana wallets directly into the game client, abstracting away seed phrases and gas fees. We also built a hybrid backend — traditional cloud services for matchmaking, leaderboards, and analytics, while using Solana for ownership, marketplace transactions, and rare item drops. This combination gave us the scalability of Web2 with the trustless ownership of Web3. Players could jump in with nothing but an email login, then later unlock the full Web3 features as they engaged more deeply. This staged adoption made our user base grow faster without alienating non-crypto players.

The UAE Advantage

Unlike many regions still struggling with unclear regulations, the UAE has taken a forward-looking stance on blockchain and gaming. Startups here benefit from government-backed accelerators, access to regional venture capital, and a player base eager for innovative tech experiences. By combining Solana's technical strengths with the UAE's supportive ecosystem, gaming founders can build experiences that are global in ambition but local in execution. For us, this meant faster approval cycles, easier partnerships, and the ability to tap into both Web2 gamers and Web3 investors at the same time.

What's Next

The shift to Solana and Web3 is not just a temporary trend; it's the foundation for a new kind of gaming economy. The real winners will be startups that combine strong gameplay with sustainable tokenomics — avoiding the mistakes of early play-to-earn projects that focused too heavily on speculation. As infrastructure matures, we expect to see UAE-built titles go global, with community-owned guilds, NFT-based competitive leagues, and even cross-game economies. For our project, the roadmap now includes expanding interoperability, experimenting with AI-driven procedural content, and building long-term value for both players and creators.
